Eighth World Buddhist Council

Chiang Mai, Mueang Chiang Mai

The Eighth World Buddhist Council took place in Mahābodhārāma, Chiang Mai, focusing on the study of scriptures and Theravada Buddhist teachings. The event was overseen by Mahāthera Dhammadinnā from Tālavana Mahāvihāra (Wat Pā Tān) and was supported by the King of Lan Na, Tilokkarat. This council was significant as it rectified the Thai Pali Canon's orthography and translated it into the Lan Na script.[7]
