Vlach-Bulgarian Rebellion
Balkan PeninsulaNew taxes imposed by imperial authorities caused a rebellion of Vlachs and Bulgarians in 1185,[33] which led to the establishment of the Second Bulgarian Empire.[34] The Vlachs' eminent status within the new state is evidenced by the writings of Robert of Clari and other western authors, who refer either to the new state or to its mountainous regions as "Vlachia" until the 1250s.[35]
